1. Peace at Last 

 

He was just falling asleep when all the birds started to sing and the sun peeped in at the window. 

 

2.Goodnight moon

goodnight mittens

mittens: a type of glove that covers the four fingers together and the thumb separately

 

3.Little Cloud 


The clouds drifted slowly across the sky.

drift: to move along smoothly and slowly in water or air

Little Cloud trailed behind.

trail v)to pull something behind somebody/something, usually along the ground; to be pulled along in this way

The bride's dress trailed behind her.

pushed  v) to affect something so that it reaches a particular level or state

Little Cloud loved to watch rabbits dash across the meadows.

dash : an act of going somewhere suddenly and/or quickly

meadow: a field covered in grass, used especially for hay

hay: grass that has been cut and dried and is used as food for animals.

They huddled close together.

huddle:to gather closely together, usually because of cold or fear

 

4.Where's My Teddy?

요것도 시리즈라는데 It's the bear!, My Friend Bear J4라는 제목으로 있다고한다.

개인적으로 그림이 귀엽고, 내용이 나름 재미있다.
Eddy's off to find his teddy.

off를 자주 사용한다. 회사에서는 I'm off today라고 많이 표현해서 잘 쓰긴 했는데...이렇게도 표현한다는건 동화책을 읽으며 알았다. 

be off: away from a place or position, especially the present place, position, or time:

He tip-toed on and on .

tip toe: on your toes with the heel of your foot lifted off the ground:

살금살금 걷다를 그림책에서는 자주 tip-toe라고 표현한다. 

You're too big to huddle and cuddle. cuddle: to put your arms around someone and hold them in a loving way, or (of two people) to hold each other close to show love or for comfort:I'll never fit both of us into my bed.fit: to provide something and put it in the correct position:Soon the whole wood could hear the voice bawl.bawl: to shout in a very loud voice:

It was a gigantic bear and a tiddly teddy stomping towards.

tiddly: extremely small:

stomp: to walk with intentionally heavy steps, especially as a way of showing that you are annoyed:

All the way back to their snuggly beds.

snuggly: comfortable and warm

 

5.Willy The Dreamer

He's in a strange landscape.

Landscape: a large area of land, especially in relation to its appearance:

come down : to come from one place to another, usually from the north of a country to the south, or from a larger place to a smaller one

 

7.Here we go round The Mulberry Bush

This is the way we dress ourselves on a cold and frosty morning.

This is the way we get to school.

he had some pigs with a Grunt, Grunt here.

he had a horse with a Whinny, Whinny here.

 

10. The wheels on the Bus 

The Driver on the bus says " Tickets please"

The babies on the bus go " wah wah wah"

See the little puffer trains all in a row.

puffer: a device or machine that blows out air, gas, powder, etc. in short bursts:

See the taxi driver polishing the windows.

polish: to rub something using a piece of cloth or brush to clean it and make it shine:

 

 

13.There was an old lady who swallowed a fly.

That wriggled and wriggled and jiggled inside her.

wriggle :to move somewhere using short, quick twisting movements:

jiggle :to move from side to side or up and down with quick short movements, or to make something do this:

There was an old lady, who swallowed a cat, well, fancy that, she swallowed cat.

fancy: to want to have or do something:

ex/Do you fancy a drink this evening?

what a hog, to swallow a dog.

hog: someone who takes much more than a fair share of something, especially by eating too much:

steer: to control the direction of a vehicle:

16.I'm Looking for a Monster!

 

It should have horns but not antlers.

antler : a horn with parts like branches that grows on the head of a deer:

It could have scales, or feathers or Fur.

scale: one of the many very small, flat pieces that cover the skin of fish, snakes, etc.

Fur: the thick hair that covers the bodies of some animals, or the hair-covered skin(s) of animals, removed from their bodies:

 

17. Hooray! says peppa

"Hooray!" snorts Peppa as she jumps up and down.

 snort:to make an explosive sound by forcing air quickly up or down the nose:

 

 

 

18. Inside Freight Train 

Freight Train시리즈인데 열차관련 용어가 많이 나온다. 사전에서도 잘 안나오니 대충 그림으로 파악한다.

Freight: goods, but not passengers, that are carried from one place to another, by ship, aircraft, train, or truck, or the system of transporting these goods:

The tender carries coal.

tender: a vehicle used for transporting water, wood, or coal, especially one that is pulled behind a railway engine or used by the fire service

A covered hopper car keeps grains and cereals dry.

hopper car :  a type of railroad freight car used to transport loose bulk commodities such as coal, ore, grain, and track ballast

An open gondola carries freight that can get wet in the rain.

천장없이 오픈되어있는 트레일러.

A cattle car carries calfs and cows.

cattle:a group of animals that includes cows, buffalo, and bison, that are often kept for their milk or meat:

calf :a young cow, or the young of various other large mammals such as elephants and whales

A stock car keeps pigs and sheep and baby chicks dry.

stock : a supply of something for use or sale:

chick: a baby bird, especially a young chicken

The caboose carries the train crew that helps deliver the freight before going home.

caboose: a small railway carriage, usually at the back of a train

 

19.The Ants go Marching 

 

The ants go marching one by one 한마리씩

The ants go marching two by two 두마리씩 

march : a walk, especially by a group of soldiers all walking with the same movement and speed:

They all go marching down to the ground.

 

20.Hungry Monsters 

낯선 의성어.의태어 묘사가 많아서 볼 단어가 많다.

what a pest.

pest : an annoying person, especially a child:an insect or small animal that is harmful or damages crops:

he's nibbling my blanket and sheet.

nibbling:to eat something by taking a lot of small bites:

In the bathroom, I hear slurping, slobbering sounds.

slurp: to drink a liquid noisily as a result of sucking air into the mouth at the same time as the liquid:

slobber: to allow saliva or food to run out of the mouth

He's searching for grub.

grub: food:

He's sniffing and snarling and smacking his lips-round the sink and the towels and tub.

snarl:  to make a deep, rough sound while showing the teeth, usually in anger or (of people) to speak or say something angrily and forcefully:

smack: to hit someone or something forcefully with the flat inside part of your hand, producing a short, loud noise, especially as a way of punishing a child:

But the stuff that he's eating has got to taste yucky.

He's nibbling on this and he's gnawing on that.

gnawing: continuously uncomfortable, worrying, or painful:

He swallows along with her fuzzy pink slippers.

fuzzy : covered with light, loose hairs or fibers:

He's tasting dusty old knick-knacks and toys.

knick-knack: a small, decorative object, especially in a house:

One last hungry monster has clomped to the kitchen.

clomp:to walk with heavy, loud steps:

you wouldn't believe what she gobbled up fast-what she relished and slobbered and chewed-Brussel sprouts

21. Max's Halloween



Max ate all his grape grenades.

When Ruby's back was turned, he made sure Max had extras.

Grandma's house was the last stop. " I'll sort the candy"

 

22. Peppa's First Pet 

 

when mummy pig feeds Goldie, peppa notices Goldie doesn't look happy.

Dr. Hamster says they should bring goldie to see her right away.

Goldie grins and eats it all.

23.Are you my mother? 


재미있고 간단한 내용이지만 문장 표현이 좋다.

처음봤을땐 되게 감흥없이 봤는데 좀더 표현을 이해하는 게 커졌는지 재미있게 느껴진다.

줄거리 자체는 동일하게 이해했는데 특이한 일이다.

역시 내용을 이해하는것과 그 표현을 받아들이는 것엔 차이가 있을듯하다.

아니면 단순히 여러번 봐서 익숙해져서 스토리가 좀더 재미있게 느껴지는지도 모른다.

go out, go away등 전치사 도치 표현은 동화책에서 주로 쓰이는데 어떤 느낌인지는 추후 원어민에게 물어보고 싶다. 

So away she went.

Inside the nest, The eggs jumped until out came a baby bird.

Out of the nest he went.

The snort lifted the baby bird up.

The snort put the baby bird right back in the tree.

23.The secret Birthday Message 

1회차 당시 책을 거의다 되게 감흥없이 봤었는데 하도 어린이 책만 봐서 취향이 맞춰진건지 마음에 드는 내용이 많아졌다. 그림도 예쁘고 나름 비밀 편지라서 궁금해하며 보물찾기 하듯이 편지를 따라가다보면 선물을 발견하게된다.

He sat up straight in his bed.

When the moon comes up, look for the biggest star.

you will see a rock behind that is the entrance to a cave.

Look up to find a opening. Crawl through.

go down the stairs. walk straight ahead to a door.

 

 

24. The very Busy spider

spider began to spin a web with her silky thread.

spin: to make thread by twisting fibres , or to produce something using thread:

want to catch a pesty fly?

pesty: being a nuisance or pest; annoyingly troublesome.

nuisance : an obnoxious or annoying person, thing, condition, practice, etc.:

25. Willy and Hugh 

Everyone seems to have friends.

one day Willy was walking in the park minding his own business.

I'm sorry. I wasn't watching where i was going.

Hugh helped Willy to his feet.

get to (one's) feet : To stand up or rise.

little wimp.

wimp: a person who is not strong, brave, or confident:

Can I be of any help?

Willy felt quite pleased with himself. 친구에게 도움되어 으쓱함을 느끼는 윌리.

 

26. Big Dog…Little Dog 

 

나름 재미있게 다양한 표현을 써서 좋다.

Ted was dry. 젖지 않았다를 이렇게 표현하는게 좋다.

One day Fred and Ted went away in their cars. 차타고 나갔다는 표현도 좋다.

By night both of them were very sleepy.

Upstairs, Fred thumped and bumped and tossed and turned.

thump : to hit something and cause a noise:

toss: to throw something carelessly:

Downstairs, Ted moaned and groaned and crashed and thrashed all over the bed.

moan: to make a long, low sound of pain, suffering, or another strong emotion

groan: a deep, long sound showing great pain or unhappiness

thrash: to move from side to side in a violent or uncontrolled way:

Why make big problems out of little problems? 

 

27. Panda Bear, Panda Bear, What do you see? 

I see a water buffalo charging by me.

charging : to move forward quickly and violently, especially towards something that has caused difficulty or anger:

I see a macaroni penguin strutting by me.

strut:to walk with your chest pushed forward and your shoulders back to show you are proud:; to walk in a proud way trying to look important:

whooping crane.미국흰두루미

I see a black panther strolling by me.
